Nepal has become the topmost contributor of security personnel to UN Peacekeeping Missions. A total of 6,247 security officers from Nepal currently serve in UN Peacekeeping, compared to 6,197 from Bangladesh.
Nepal surpassed Bangladesh last November. Other countries with significant contributions are India with 6,073, Rwanda with 5,919, and Pakistan with 4,164 officers.
The Nepal team in UN Peacekeeping includes 42 experts, 180 unit members, 104 staff officers, 56 police advisors, and 5,865 other forces.
The UN has deployed Nepali security personnel in South Sudan, Sudan, Congo, Lebanon, Western Sahara, Syria, Mali, Central African Republic, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Israel, and UN headquarters. The troops are sourced from Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal.
Since the first peacekeeping mission in Lebanon in 1958, 150,000 Nepali security officers have worked for the supra-national organisation.
