Nine Nobel Peace Prize laureates are set to attend the 4th International Summit of Laureates and Leaders for Children, Development, and Peace, in the birthplace of Gautam Buddha at Lumbini.
The Lumbini Provincial Government will organise the summit from March 11 to March 13. Nobel Peace Prize winners Richard J Roberts (1993), José Ramos-Horta (1996), Jody Williams (1997), Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkol Karman (2011), Arieh Warshel (2013), Kailash Satyarthi (2014), and Abdessatar Ben Moussa and Ouided Bouchamaoui (2015) will attend the summit alongside other international dignitaries, including heads of states of developing countries.
The two-day summit will include plenary sessions, informative small-group breakout sessions, and solution-focused roundtable dialogues on ending child exploitation. The participants will deliberate on the rights of marginalised children and vulnerable communities.
Gautam Buddha, born as Siddhartha Gautam in the plains of Nepal, is revered for his teachings on peace that continue to guide the modern world. While contributing to the topic under discussion, the organisers expect the summit to contribute in introducing Lumbini to the global community.
