Tilicho Lake, situated at an altitude of 4,919 meters in Manang district, now has access to internet connectivity.
October 15, 2023.
This service has been introduced for the convenience of tourists visiting the lake in the mountainous district of Manang. It is expected to be particularly effective for communication in the event of altitude sickness and other emergencies, according to Cholpa Gurung, the ward chair of Manang Dinsang Rural Municipality-9.
The availability of internet connectivity is anticipated to reduce incidents of people going missing or falling ill while visiting the area. Visitors can now stay in contact with their families and relatives, improving safety and communication.
The service has been introduced in coordination with tourism and hotel entrepreneurs to cater to the needs of tourists. With the increase in tourist arrivals during the peak season, this service has become a valuable resource for tourists, as Manang is a popular destination for both domestic and foreign travelers.
Tourists flock to Manang to experience the breathtaking mountain scenery, hill landscapes, and unique culture and lifestyle of the local population. The district is also a hub for mountaineers and trekkers who wish to climb mountains or explore various trekking routes. Over 200 foreign tourists visit the district daily, and the pressure on tourism may increase during the Dashain and Tihar festivals.
The Annapurna Circuit covers five districts: Lamjung, Manang, Kaski, Mustang, and Myagdi. In the past eight months, more than 14,200 trekkers have completed this route, with the majority coming from Israel, France, and Germany.
The influx of tourists, both domestic and foreign, has boosted the spirits of tourism entrepreneurs. In order to prioritize the health of visiting tourists, a temporary health post has been established in the area in coordination with the rural municipality and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). The ACAP also provides valuable information to tourists visiting Tilicho Lake and Thorangla Bhanjyang regarding potential health hazards and risks that may arise during their journey.
