The Government of Nepal and the Government of Japan have signed an agreement to utilize grant assistance of JPY 3,296 million (approximately NPR 2.95 billion) for the implementation of the ‘Project for the Improvement of Dhulikhel Hospital Trauma and Emergency Center.’
The Exchange of Notes regarding this assistance was signed by Dr. Krishna Hari Pushkar, Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, on behalf of the Government of Nepal, and Mr. Kikuta Yutaka, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, on behalf of the Government of Japan.
Additionally, a grant agreement was signed by Mr. Shreekrishna Nepal, Joint Secretary of the International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division at the Ministry of Finance, and Mr. Okubo Akimitsu, Chief Representative of the JICA Nepal Office, representing the Government of Nepal and JICA, respectively.
The project’s objective is to enhance medical services to accommodate the growing number of trauma and emergency patients in Nepal. This will be achieved by constructing a trauma and emergency center that includes emergency rooms, operating rooms, an ICU, outpatient consultation rooms, and providing medical equipment such as MRI, CT, C-arm, X-ray machines, high steam sterilizers, and more at Dhulikhel Hospital.
The total project implementation period is 48 months, and the proposed assistance will be channeled through the Ministry of Health and Population as a conditional grant.
Finance Secretary Dr. Krishna Hari Pushkar expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan for its continuous support in strengthening Nepal’s health sector. He emphasized the importance of this project in delivering emergency services to patients in Dhulikhel and nearby areas.
Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, Mr. Kikuta Yutaka, expressed hope that the project would contribute to ensuring the health and welfare of the Nepali people and promote self-sustaining development in Nepal. He highlighted the increasing number of trauma and emergency patients in Nepal due to various factors, making it crucial to expand hospital facilities and introduce necessary medical equipment.
